How to Self-Abhyanga

Abhyaṇga is the the āyurvedic oleated massage performed during intensive cleansing treatments called pañcakarma. It is also recommended as a daily practice, as part of one’s dinacarya or daily routine.

The oleated self-massage, when performed daily, helps to calm the nervous system as well as works as a gentle detox. The lipophilic action of the herbalized oil pulls toxins from the lymphatic system to the surface of the skin. After the massage, this oil and the toxins accumulated through it’s action are washed off, and another application of oil for moisturizing purposes can be made, if desired, for all-day wear.
