doṣa: a three-fold bio-energetic framework (vāta, pitta, kapha) used in āyurveda, referring to pairs of pañcamahābhūta (five elements) which can get vitiated or imbalanced in the body (and mind). plays a causative role in physiology and pathology. when in equilibrium, they support health and when vitiated, they cause disease.
